Antique, Bronze, seated Manjushri, 1900's
RARE 1770 EDITION OF JOHN MILTON'S "PARADISE LOST" ILLUSTRATED by E HAYMAN
Antique Bronze Figure of Manjushri, Seated Bodhisattva of Wisdom
A finely cast antique bronze sculpture of Manjushri, the revered Bodhisattva of Wisdom, is depicted seated in a composed and meditative posture. This impressive figure exemplifies the refined craftsmanship and spiritual symbolism associated with classical Buddhist bronzes.
Manjushri is shown holding the Sword of Wisdom, symbolising the cutting away of ignorance, while the delicately modelled lotus stem signifies purity and enlightenment. The serene facial expression, elaborate crown, and finely detailed jewellery and garments reflect his exalted spiritual status and demonstrate a high level of artistic skill.
The bronze surface displays a rich, naturally aged patina, enhancing the depth and character of the sculpture. The balanced proportions and harmonious composition make this a visually striking and spiritually resonant piece.
Measuring approximately 32 x 22 cm, this is a substantial and dignified example, well-suited for collectors of Buddhist art, Himalayan bronzes, or devotional sculpture. A powerful and contemplative work that would form a distinguished addition to any serious collection.
