An attractive and highly collectable MCC limited edition print depicting Mr Hope of Amsterdam Playing Cricket, reproduced from the original painting by the Swiss-born artist Jean-François Sablet (1745–1819), held in the collection of the Marylebone Cricket Club at Lord's.

The Subject

The composition depicts Henry Hope of Amsterdam — one of the earliest known patrons and players of cricket — preparing to bat with the distinctive curved bat used during the late 18th century. The scene is widely recognised as an important representation of the early history of cricket, capturing the sport during its formative years. Thomas Hope stands at the wicket, surrounded by players and spectators against an atmospheric landscape.
