Vintage Painting, Oil on Canvas, Coastal Seascape, Roger de la Corbiere

Roger de la Corbière (French, 1893–1974)
Coastal Seascape, Saint-Lunaire, Brittany
Oil on canvas, signed lower right, in ornate period frame

This luminous coastal seascape by Roger de la Corbière captures the tranquil shoreline of Saint-Lunaire on the Breton coast, where soft sunlight reflects across gently rippling waters. The artist’s sensitive handling of colour and light evokes a calm, atmospheric moment, characteristic of his refined marine compositions.

Painted in oil on canvas and signed in the lower right, the work is presented in an ornate decorative frame that enhances its elegant presentation and period character.

Roger de la Corbière was an established figure in 20th-century French marine painting, exhibiting regularly at major Paris salons and receiving multiple honours, including a Silver Medal at the Paris Salon (1954) and Bronze Medal (1957). His works entered notable collections, including acquisitions by the French State, the Maynard Gallery of Canada (Ottawa), and the former Soviet Foreign Minister Andrei Gromyko.

A refined example of French coastal painting, suitable for both traditional and contemporary interiors. Some light surface toning consistent with age is present, and a gentle clean may further enhance the appearance of the colours.

Size 56 x 46 cm
