This exquisite pair of Royal Worcester porcelain figurines, titled Joy and Sorrow, was designed by celebrated modeller James Hadley and dates to 1902. Each figure stands gracefully at approximately 13 inches (25 cm) tall with a base diameter of 8.5 cm. The sculpting is masterful, with flowing, sinuous drapery that beautifully conveys the contrasting emotions of happiness and griefthe narrative is depicted through the tender gestures and the symbolic dove. The pair exemplifies the exceptional craftsmanship and artistry for which Royal Worcester is renowned. Markings on the base confirm their authenticity and date. A rare and evocative addition for collectors of fine English porcelain or lovers of Victorian sentimentality.
