A fine and evocative original example of Swiss military headgear — the Model 1898 Rifleman's Shako attributed to the 24th Infantry Battalion of the Swiss Army, dating to the early 20th century and likely worn during the World War I period. Swiss military shakos of this pattern are considerably rarer on the international market than their German or French counterparts, making this a genuinely distinctive addition to any European militaria collection.

Constructed in traditional black felt with a leather peak and base trim, the shako retains its strong cylindrical profile characteristic of the 1898 pattern. The front plate bears brass crossed rifles flanked by two stars and the applied numeral “24” denoting battalion designation. Above the insignia sits a red and grey cockade surmounted by a vivid red pom-pom, providing a striking contrast to the dark felt body. Ventilation eyelets are present to the sides.
